Hi there - its Peter Goodall. I was talking to Paul last year about my grandfather John Henry Whittaker who lived at 6 Wilmur Mount Luddenden Foot and who played for the Band for many many years. I have read the on-line history and seen that not only is Johnny mentioned but also his great friend Wilfed Watson. I was told by Paul that he would send me a copy of the Centerary Booklet. I am quite prepared to pay for it. My address is 43 Edinburgh Drive Oswaldtwistle Accrington Lancashire BB5 3AR. My Email address is melvyngoodall@tiscali.co.uk Hope everything is OK and thanking you in anticipation Yours Peter M Goodall

bright and interesting website ! I was hoping to find some info on a deceased member called William Horncastle who was my wifes grandfather, she believes he was a member for most of his life from about 1920 to his death in 1943. Would you consider looking through your archives for any information on him ? My name is Terry Reid and I live in Broadway Worcestershire Tel: 01386858911 my email is terry@terryreid.wanadoo.co.uk. regards and best wishes. Terry Reid

from gingercookie91@tiscali.co.uk What a treat & a trip down memory lane to see your page & to learn the band is still going strong. I have very happy memories of my years playing with the band (1968 to 74/5). All the best for the future, Fiona.

Hi, just enjoying a small piece of history. John Henry Whittaker (Johnny) was my grandfather and though small at the time, I so remember the Christmas Day soiree with a few hardy members partaking of several large glasses of the amber nectar - and owt else folk gave them! One medley ran into the next with hardly anyone noticing two were playing Oh Come All Ye Faithful and three were playing While Shepherds Watched! I blew Cornet for Coventry Police Band in the 60's and 70's but now have a job to blow my nose! Now living in Sunny Bournemouth. Keep up the good work - John Goodall jg@shortwaveshop.com

Just signing in after looking at your site - directed there yesterday at the Cenetaph ('Foot)by your Secretary. I see you have got my grandfather in your 'history' John Henry Whittaker (Johnny) and well I remember (although only a child) those Christmas 'tours' stopping off at Wilmur Mount. Your history also mentions W Watson and I think that might be Johnny's best mate Wilfred who lived at King Cross. I'll pop back to you for more info at a later date now I know where you are. hi everyone... dont really know what to say as i left so abruptly!!! i know it was extremly rude of me and i deeply apologise! i hope you all had a great chritmas and raised lots of money and i send my reguards to everyone! as for an excuse as to why i left with no proper explaination, there is none. i suppose it just came down to a loss of interest, not in the band as a whole, just my cornet playing. i am now enquiring into learning how to play another intrument...which one? i dont know as of yet but i dont want to quit all together and i will never forget my roots and the fact that the friendly band started me off in what i hope will become a successful career in music whether it be in singing, playing or teaching, i am ever so grateful!
love jess
p.s sorry for any spelling errors, im pretty naff at it!!
